Tiny giants

How humbling
To stand tall
On the shoulders of
tiny, mighty women
not giants,
but giants.
Those warrior women
who have stood
before me,
Who stand
beside me.
And when I’m feeling small
And worry
I’m not worthy
not capable
not brave.
I remember
my mother
and her mother,
and their mothers
standing tall before
Igniting
a flame
in each of us
For we are not tiny
wilting,
retiring flowers
waiting idly
to be picked.
We were made
compact
So we might
travel light
and
take you by surprise
with our determined minds
and sharp tongue
as we roar.
For
though we are small,
we are mightier
than you thought.
And on the shoulders
of giants
I can see
over the highest peak
The mountains
climbed
those that lie ahead.
From up here
I can see my path
is painted
with all the power,
knowledge
of all the troubles
learnings,
hardships.
battles fought.
I feel their blood surge through me
And they hold my hand
as they show me
I am already
climbing my own.
